TREVENSON UNITES RES 1

FALMOUTH ATHLETIC RES 3

WITH ex-Falmouth Athletic player Simon Merrifield running the show for long periods in this Whirlwind Sports Falmouth-Helston League division three game, it came as no surprise when Trevenson took the lead with a Merrifield header.

Athletic was soon on level terms when good running by Gilbert set up Southworth with a tap in.

Athletic took the lead in the second half and again it was Southworth on hand to tap the ball into an empty net after a goalkeeping error.

The midfields were battling it out for long periods and Trevenson had their chances to draw level, but Percival made three outstanding saves to keep Athletic'slead intact.

With just minutes remaining, a corner by Jeffries was headed powerfully against the bar by Richardson, which put Trevenson on the attack. Percival again came to the rescue with a good clearance that fell to Southworth just inside the Trevenson half and turned to shoot into the top corner with the strong wind.

Unfortunately, he had to leave the field after Southworth's celebration dive ended with him injuring himself on impact.

Falmouth Utd Rangers 4 Culdrose 4 The first game back after the Christmas break was very entertaining with Culdrose taking an early two-goal lead, but just before half-time Rangers clawed a goal back when Leach was fed by Toy and scored with a crisp shot into the far corner.

In the second half Rangers came out all guns blazing after a stern talk by manager Lenny Harris and scored almost immediately when Lowry went on a solo run and side footed the ball past the visiting goalkeeper.

Rangers' goal then took a pounding when firstly Culdrose hit the post and the rebound well saved on the line by Jack Wallis and then Leach shot against his own crossbar with again Wallis coming to the rescue.

Culdrose caught Rangers on the break with a well-taken goal, but Rangers got back on level terms with Leach scoring his second and Rangers' third from a Snowdon cross.

Culdrose struck again with a fierce shot from the touchline and with time running out, Rangers pushed forward to send Lowry through and round the 'keeper to score a dramatic equaliser. with just 30 seconds remaining on the watch.
