AFTER losing four games on the trot, Porthleven finally got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 4-1 victory.
The Fishermen welcomed Perranporth who currently sit at the bottom of the South West Peninsula League West table to Gala Parc.
Having gone close recently against sides like Illogan RBL and Liskeard Athletic who are challenging at the top of the league, it was the perfect chance for Port to grab three points.
But the afternoon did not quite go as planned with a sloppy start from the hosts putting them behind early on.
Brandon Light broke the deadlock for the visitors as a ball played down the middle split Port’s defence and gave the forward plenty of time to fire past Benji Bryant.
Moments later ex-Porthleven player Paul Robertson nearly doubled Perranporth’s lead, but sent a header wide.
Parity was restored though in the 17th minute when Tom Annear sent in a free kick from the right which found Dan Tarrant at the back post to head home.
From this point Port took control but were unable to get the lead before half time despite going close on a couple of occasions.
Jack James had to clear the ball off Perranporth’s line after Freddie Williams chip and Tom Hawkins also went close with a well hit shot which drove wide.
It took just two minutes for the hosts to go in front after the break though as Chris Wormington got his first goal of the season, finishing off a move sparked by Jordan Annear’s run down the left flank.
Annear would go from creator to scorer ten minutes later when he completed a superb solo run, beating defenders for fun, to make it 3-1.
He finished proceedings off with another good individual effort with 15 minutes remaining.
Port finished the match with ten men, but because Dan Greet had to depart injured after all three subs had been used.
Perranporth could not squeeze anything out of the numerical advantage though.
PORTHLEVEN: Bryant, Wormington, Hunter, Kay (Ogunbode, 67), Tarrant (McCardie, 57), Hawkins (Richards, 67), Best, Greet, T Annear, J Annear, Williams.
