GLEN Squires said Bickland Park is a place he enjoys coming back to play football – and hopes to bag plenty of goals for Falmouth Town.
The 30-year-old striker rejoined the Ambers from Newquay last week for his third stint at the South West Peninsula League Premier club and on Saturday bagged a goal in his first game since his return.
He spent 63 minutes on the pitch before pulling up with cramp.
Squires told the Packet he is pleased to on the pitch again at Town and hopes to help the side pull away from the foot of the table.
He said: “From my two previous spells at Falmouth I have good memories and enjoyed my time at the club, so I always enjoy going back there.
“When I have left the club before, it has been on good terms with the door always open for me to come back.
“Getting a goal in my first game back was really, really pleasing to as if you ask any striker, they want to score on their debut “I know hoping to get more game time under my belt, build up that match fitness to get myself through a whole 90 minutes and get more goals in the process.”
Plenty of attention has been on the club recently following John Dent’s resignation and Wayne Hughes’ appointment to the Bickland Park hot-seat.
But despite all the off-field matters which have been focused on, Squires believes the squad he is part of again is concentrating on moving up the league.
“The two times I have been here before, I always found the club a good place to be with plenty of people around,” he said.
“Going into the dressing room on Saturday, I got the sense I was coming into a good bunch of lads who are all keen to turn things around.
“They want to get results to pull the team away from the bottom of the table and I think Wayne is pulling the club in the right direction.”
Ambers’ assistant manager Gary Pascoe said the club believe Squires can be the creative spark in front of goal which they need at the moment.
He also said the bench were happy with his first game back.
Pascoe said: “The first half he did well and he hasn’t played for a long time so looked a bit rusty, but he linked up well with Kayne Trevaskis and hopefully he will only get better.
“I think his arrival is good for competition as we only had two recognised strikers on the books, so Glen will give us that other option.”
