A “ROUTINE win” was played out by Wendron United on Saturday as they blasted six past Newquay Reserves.
Manager Paul Murray said he was happy to see his Dron side record such a healthy score at Underlane in the Jolly’s Combination League clash.
Luke Wort and Jason Roberts gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at half time before a brace from 16-year-old Matt Buchan and strikes from Harry Evans and Steve Brewer secured the three points.
After the game, Murray said: “We started quite brightly and Newquay had some half decent players, but lacked the bit of quality to get a win.
“It was a game we were expecting to win so to get the points in the fashion we did was good.”
Wort opened the scoring from a free kick before Roberts slotted the ball home to double the tally after getting on the end of a superb cross by Brett Andrews.
In the second half, Newquay showed put pressure on Dron but after Buchan came on as a substitute and scored with his first touch, for the second week in a row, the game was out of reach.
Brewer then got on the scoresheet before Evans got a deflection onto Roberts’ shot to make it 5-0.
Buchan popped up again towards to the end to score the sixth goal in a match which saw the hosts give another 16-year-old, Billy Stone, his first team debut.
