ANOTHER mouth-watering tie has been set up between local rivals Helston Athletic and Wendron United in a cup competition.
On Saturday the sides were drawn against each other in the third round of the Cornwall Senior Cup.
It comes a month after the clubs clashed in the Cornwall Charity Cup, with the Peninsula League side needing extra time to see off the Combination League outfit in a thrilling 4-3 result.
This time round the tie, which will take place on January 17, will be played at Underlane and Dron’s boss Paul Murray said he is pleased to be at home in this and the Combination League Cup, where they have been drawn with table toppers Mullion.
Murray said: “We will start the game with Helston as underdogs, but we proved to them last time we can give them a game and if we go in with the same attitude then I think we can beat them.
“In the League Cup, we couldn’t have got a tougher tie, but like the Senior Cup I am pleased we’re at home which should give us an advantage.”
Athletic’s manager Sid Taylor said he is looking forward to having another crack at Dron in a cup competition.
“Obviously Wendron have done well in recent years against sides from higher leagues,” he said.
“It is a local derby as well and the first game we played against this season was a brilliant game to watch.
“We’ll be looking forward to it and we know it won’t be an easy game as Wendron have some good players.”
