JOSH Burton said he is pleased to have re-signed for Penryn Athletic.
The midfielder’s transfer to the South West Peninsula League West team, who he played for three seasons ago, was confirmed ahead of Saturday’s clash with Porthleven.
Due a suspension he picked up at Falmouth Town, the 20-year-old was unable to play for the Kernick Road outfit as they drew 1-1 with their opponents.
Burton said it was good to be coming back to Athletic and hopes his short time playing in the league above will help boost the side’s promotion chasing season.
“It has been a bit depressing season so far,” he told the Packet.
“I’m looking to get a bit of confidence back and I think I can regain it here.
“The last time I played here I really enjoyed it and when I came to training the other night, what struck me was how good the team spirit is and that was a massive factor in my decision.
“Playing with Falmouth in a division above, I learnt a lot going up against better players and seeing what they do and trying to adapt my game, so hopefully I can transfer that experience down here with Penryn.”
Looking back at his previous club, Burton admitted it has been demoralising at Bickland Park this season but believes the club are starting to get back on track.
He said: “Going out every week with the attitude of we’ll go along with it and maybe come out with a point is never good.
“But the job Wayne Hughes has done since he took over as manager has been great.
“He came in when the club were really struggling and he’s done the best with what resources he’s got and galvanised the squad.”
Athletic’s joint-manager Steve Jewell said it was great to welcome Burton back.
Jewell said: “I think he was playing on Saturday, he would have found the pass to unlock Porthleven and that is the sort of quality he brings in midfield.”
