Helston Ath Res 1

Porthleven Res 2

A SURPRISE win for Porthleven Reserves over Helston Athletic Reserves saw the Fishermen claim the Strike Memorial Trophy on Boxing Day.

Port travelled the short distance from their Gala Parc base to Kellaway Park for the derby clash sitting just one place above bottom in the Jolly’s Combination League.

It was expected the hosts, who started the day in fifth place, would make light work of their rivals in the match which was being played for the trophy again for the first time since the 1960s.

However, Steve Williams’ goal, coupled with an own goal by the home side, saw the visitors claim bragging rights and the glory.

Mike Halibone got on the scoresheet for Athletic, but it proved to be not enough to get anything from the tie.

Mullion 3

Wendron United 3

A THRILLING 3-3 draw was the end result of the Boxing Day derby between Mullion and Wendron United.

Justin Miles’ penalty in injury time for the visitors at Clifden Parc saw the teams get a point each.

Dron got off to the worst possible start and went 2-0 down in the first 20 minutes, which is how the score stayed going in at half time.

The host’s lead came courtesy of strikes from Alan Thomas and Rob Carey.

Wort scored early in the second half to reduce the deficit, and Ambrose crossed for Matt Rose to score a deserved equaliser.

The visitors pressed for the winner, but it was Mullion who broke and Joe Lugg scored regain the lead with eight minutes left.

Wendron showed character to put on lots of pressure, which told in the 93rd minute when a shot by Ambrose came off the hand of one of Mullion’s defenders.

Miles stepped up and smashed home the penalty under great pressure to ensure the visitors left with a share of the spoils.

Penryn Ath Res 2

Falmouth Town Res 5

HAVING beaten them 5-0 earlier this season, Falmouth Town Reserves were hoping to get another win against rivals Penryn Athletic Reserves on Boxing Day.

In wet and muddy conditions at Kernick Road, which passed a pitch inspection before the game despite it looking unlikely any football would take place, the Ambers came out on top again.

They also hit another five goals past Athletic to match their achievement earlier in the season.

The only difference this time round to the score was the hosts managed to bag goals themselves through Ryan Reeve and Tom Campbell.

However, a brace from Dom Pullen and the strikes of Ben Allen, Jamie Webb and Sam Reed saw Town pick up another three points.

Overall it is the side’s third win against Penryn in this campaign, having beaten them 4-3 at Kernick in the League Cup.
