AT one stage, it seemed like neither Penryn or Torquay Athletic would get the scoreboard ticking over on Saturday.
When the half time whistle was blown, much to everyone’s disbelief the match was still poised at 0-0, a rarity in rugby.
However, Borough made sure there was some action for the people in charge of changing the numbers round as tries from Jack Willey and Andrew Seviour saw them win 12-7.
It was an important victory for the home side as they broke out of a rut of three defeats in a row.
Much talk before the clash was of the clubs’ meetings earlier in the season with the tie at Athletic having to be replayed because of “Propgate”.
For those unaware of this, Torquay claimed not have any replacement front rowers available halfway into the second half, forcing uncontested scrums, which had bore fruit for Penryn.
Athletic went on to win the match 23-22, but Borough appealed as they knew Jonathan Woodhead, who was on the bench, had played as a prop earlier in the season.
A replay was enforced which the Cornishmen won 32-13.
Turning back to Saturday, Borough started positively and set the tone for the first half which they dominated in terms of possession and territory.

But after spending weeks without a win, the hosts looked a tad nervy and this in turn led to a number of good try scoring moves ending in disappointment with final passes going astray.
The dominance shown in the opening 40 minutes continued in the second half and finally Borough went in front.
Winger Jack Willey gave them the lead as he sprinted through the away defence after the ball was passed to him at the back of a ruck, with James Salisbury missing the conversion.
The lead was extended when, as the ball was moved from the right wing to the left, tighthead prop Dan Booth made a good burst through the Torquay line and an offload to Seviour, pictured above, saw him go over, with Salisbury adding the extra two points.
Athletic set up an exciting finish after they scored an interception try, but the win was hung onto though by Penryn, who now have to wait until January 31 for their next league clash as they face Truro away in a local derby.
Before this game, the side will be Cornwall’s representatives in the Intermediate Cup on Saturday as they travel to Okehampton.
