PAUL Murray wants to see Wendron United make it to the semi finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup for the first time – but insists there is no pressure on them.
On Saturday, the Jolly’s Combination League side caused an upset in the third round of the competition by defeating neighbours Helston Athletic 2-0.
Their reward is a quarter final tie at home to either Camelford or Callington Town on February 14.
The SWPL Premier Division sides are scheduled to meet tonight after their match was called off on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch.
Last season, Murray’s side reached the same stage of the cup before losing 3-0 to Bodmin Town.
Looking ahead to the quarter finals, Dron’s manager said he would love to get into the next phase of the competition, but added it is not his biggest concern.
Murray, pictured above, said: “We reached the same stage last year so it will be as unknown for us this time and I’m happy with a home draw.
“It is a pleasure to be in the last eight again and it’ll be nice to make the last four and go further into uncharted territory.
“But we are not too worried about it all and the league is still are main focus.
“There is no pressure on us as we’ll go into the match as underdogs whoever we get, so it is a no lose situation for us.”
Alongside Helston, United have already beaten another team in the league above them in this season’s competition, knocking out Sticker 5-2 in the second round.
They also defeated SWPL West club Dobwalls in last year’s on their way to the quarter finals in 2014.
Murray told the Packet there is no big secret behind how they get success against higher level teams.
“Obviously we are not expected to win the games, which actually helps us out,” he said.
“I think there is a lot of pride in the players here too and when it comes to playing these big games, it is easier to raise your game.
“It makes my job easier too as I don’t have to do a lot of talking before the match because the guys are up for it and motivated.”
