KIERAN Goss believes he is benefiting from his team-mates moving the ball out to the backs more this season.
The winger has scored nine tries for the Greene King IPA Championship team in the 2014/15 campaign, two more than his tally for the whole of last year.
He feels the main reason behind his increased try scoring boils down to the style of play from the whole team.
Goss, who is currently sidelined with a joint diffusion in his ankle, said: “A big difference is that we are looking to move the ball around more, particular amongst the backs.
“Last season, I scored from a lot of scraps and I have done that as well this season too, but what we are also moving the ball out and running with it more on the wings, which obviously brings me into play.
“It works well for us as our back three all have real pace, which is something not a lot of other teams in the league have, so when you get the ball to us, it automatically creates more chances.”
Something which the South African has made a specialty this season has been the interception try.
Out of his nine dot downs, four have come after latching onto a stray pass from his opponents.
Despite his penchant for the move, Goss admitted before this campaign, he has been reluctant to go for interceptions.
“I have always been a firm believer that you should never go for it because it shows a sign of weakness in your defence,” Goss said.
“But what we have been working on is our defence and lots of teams do try to push the wide passes out, so if you can anticipate it, you can make more of an educated guess.
“They are the most exciting to score as well because as a team you haven’t had to work that hard to score a try and to get seven points without working hard is always a bonus.”
Goss is expected to return from injury next month.
