FALMOUTH Town have been getting a bit more rub of the green in recent games - according to their manager.
Speaking to the Packet, Wayne Hughes believes the Ambers are seeing their luck change following a run of three games unbeaten.
This spell has included a 0-0 draw against South West Peninsula League Premier title challengers Exmouth Town.
They have also recorded a pair of 2-1 victories on the road at Stoke Gabriel and Newquay, both of whom are in the same part of the league table as Town.
Reflecting on the run, Hughes said: “In all honesty, I think our luck is starting to change.
“When I first took over towards the end of last year, I thought we were improving bit-by-bit, but either a decision would go against us or we’d miss a chance.
“For instance, when we drew with Exmouth, we had an excellent chance to win, but we hit the crossbar.
“Sometimes you need that bit of luck in football and we got it at Newquay on Saturday with the penalty after their defender handballed.”
With no losses in three games, which is their best run in the league since they went seven unbeaten 11 months ago, Hughes added confidence is starting to grow at the club.
On Saturday, Town travel up to Torpoint Athletic, who they drew 1-1 with in November.
Hughes, pictured below, said the renewed belief amongst the players is starting to give him a welcomed selection headache ahead of the clash, which he sees as winnable.
“We are at a stage now where we have a lot of guys pushing for first team spots,” he said.
“It is hard keeping everyone happy all the time when they are not playing, but the attitude of the guys is fantastic and everyone just wants to do their bit for the team.
“Obviously winning games does help out a lot, but I am in a position now where whatever team I pick, I know they are all going to give 100 per cent for me and that is a brilliant feeling to have as a manager.”
The Bickland Park boss’ thoughts were shared by Ambers striker Glen Squires, who opened the scoring for Town in Saturday’s win at Newquay.
“He and Gary [Pascoe] have done a really good job as manager and assistant manager,” Squires said.
“They’ve really put the belief back in the boys and the whole side has a good feeling about them.
“I also think things are improving since Tom Whipp came in as he and Joe Cooper have set up a good partnership at the back and we have guys in the midfield like Luke [Appleton] and Ross [Pope] who are doing a great job too.”
