DISAPPOINTINGLY Porthleven fell from two goals up to lose at a wet and muddy Dobwalls on Saturday.
The Fishermen had gone in front with strikes from Dan Greet and Jordan Annear in the opening 22 minutes, but the hosts were pegged back by half time.
Then in the second half, young substitute Tom Bennett completed the comeback for Dobwalls when he scored despite offside appeals from Port players.
During the opening exchanges, both teams had their chances to score with Ben Allen-Bassett putting Annear through, who then tried to chip Steve Cross only to see the home goalkeeper make a good save.
The deadlock came close to be being broken by Dobwalls when Harry Hook made a good run down the right wing and sent in a dangerous cross, but Ryan Stallard could not quite stretch his foot out far enough to get on the end of it.
Matt Best nearly put the visitors ahead but Cross was in fine form again as he managed to tip over the midfielder’s effort.
Pressure did tell in the 19th minute though when Port opened the scoring as Annear sent the ball into the box despite a heavy challenge by Cross for Greet to turn it home.
Annear added a second three minutes later when he raced down the left wing before rounding the goalkeeper and firing home into the top corner of the net from an acute angle.
Just as it seemed Port were stretching out into a commanding lead, Dan Tarrant bundled over Hook in the box and a penalty was awarded which Matt Hales scored.
Dobwalls then got their equaliser on the stroke of half time when the visitors lost the ball in the midfield before Hook cracked a shot past Benji Bryant.
Annear had to come off during the break as his earlier encounter with Cross in the build-up to the opening goal gave him a knock.
This had an effect on Port’s attacking threat in the second half with their potency noticeably down.
However, with the rain getting heavier, neither side looked to be enjoying conditions which made playing football very difficult.
Bennett grabbed the only goal after the interval to complete the comeback for Dobwalls as he slotted the ball past Bryant.
Port’s players were unhappy with the goal being allowed as they felt Bennett had started their half and had been in an offside position, but their appeals were turned away.
The conditions in the second half made the play rather farcical to watch as both sides waited for mistakes to happen in the midfield or defence.
Best came closest to getting an equaliser for Port, but his long range effort flew over the cross bar.
Wadebridge Town are next up for the Fishermen with the match taking place at Gala Parc on Saturday.
PORTHLEVEN: Bryant, Wormington, Hunter, Hall, Tarrant, Allen-Bassett, Best, D Greet, T Annear, J Annear (Orchard 46), Williams.
