SEEING Wendron United win the Combination League Cup would make their manager Paul Murray “immensely proud” of his side.
Dron progressed to the last stage of the competition on Sunday after defeating Hayle 4-1 in the semi final at Porthleven with goals coming from Justin Miles, Luke Wort, Ryan Tresidder and Matt Rose.
They now face fellow league title chasers Ludgvan on Easter Sunday in what promises to be a cracking final, which will be the first time either side has reached this stage.
Speaking to the Packet, Murray admitted the season’s main priority remains the league, but believes his team deserve to go on and win the cup.
Murray said: “I’d be delighted if we go and win the trophy on Easter Sunday.
“The team I’ve put together here is good and they deserve to win things because they have worked so hard all season long.
“If Justin Miles is lifting that cup on Easter Sunday and all the players have winner’s medals around their necks, I will be an immensely proud manager.”
He also hopes their appearance in the final will help spur his side on for the rest of the season with them trying to pull back Mullion’s lead at the top of the table.
“It is always a nice feeling for anyone to lift a trophy,” Murray said.
“But what it also does is keeps the interest there amongst the squad as the players want to be playing in the final, so they’ll put the effort into training too.
“Any win is good and getting a trophy to put in the cabinet builds confidence which will be needed as we head into the last few league games.”
With his side and Ludgvan currently trading places on a regular basis for second and third spot in the Combination League, Murray is under no illusions their clash will be a tough affair.
Their main goal threat comes in the form of Gerans James who has 42 league strikes to his name this season, but Dron’s boss said he is not the only danger they have to worry about.
Murray said: “I’m sure Justin [Miles] and Chris [Madeley] will be able to cope with Gerans, but they are a very good side and have plenty of other threats such as the Devines and Jack Ramsey.
“It is a one off game as well and it seems like it will be the last chance for Ludgvan to win anything this season, so they will be up for it.
“But we try to make ourselves hard to beat and we have a day out which we’ll try to enjoy, even though we really want to bring the cup back to Underlane.”
