KIND hearted lady golfers at Falmouth Golf Club may have spent a greater part of their time perfecting their golf swings, but they have also found time to raise over £1,200 for charity.

The ladies' team captain during a year in office at Falmouth Golf Club is asked to nominate a charity for which they raise money throughout the following 12 months.

Jane Wooldridge, captain for 2006, chose two charities, St Julia's Hospice and Cancer Research UK, and has presented cheques to both charities for £670 each.

She thanked the ladies of Falmouth Golf Club for their sterling support throughout her year as captain.

Mrs Wooldridge said: "All of the ladies here at the club have helped to raise this money through various events throughout the year. We have had raffles, coffee mornings and a whole host of other activities.

"Basically, any excuse we could find to raise some more money, we just did it. I found it hard to choose just one charity so I chose two as they both do tremendous work."

Christine Morris, chairman of the Falmouth committee for Cornwall Hospice Care, and Jane Frapwell, secretary, along with Trevor Gardener of Cancer Research UK were at the club to receive the cheques and thanked Jane and the ladies of Falmouth Golf Club for their support.

The Falmouth Ladies have had a great month on the golf course considering the adverse weather and have managed to play all of their weekly competitions.

Kath Wells won four out of the five competitions that were held during January.

January 2: 14-hole Stableford, winner Barbara Roker.

January 9, Texas Scramble, winners Kath Wells and Alison Alton.

January 16: Californian Scramble, winners K Wells, Audrey Pitt and Janet Cambell.

January 23: Five clubs and a putter, winner Kath Wells.

The medal winners for last year were: Silver, Lena Holland; bronze, Kally Hutchings.
