THIS year's Cornwall County snooker singles final has thrown up the classic confrontation of burgeoning youth against experience.

What's more, the two finalists, Paul Williams and Bobby Southworth, are both from Bell's Court Snooker Club, which makes it an even more intriguing clash.

Southworth, who is still only 16, has achieved remarkable success already in reaching the county's premier singles final. He beat Anthony Williams of St Day 3-0 in his semi-final whilst Paul Williams beat Bob Stephens by the same score.

The final would normally have been played at another venue, but such will be the interest in the "master v pupil" encounter that the final will now be played at Falmouth's Bell's Court on a date to be fixed.

"I am probably playing the best snooker since 2000," said Paul. "I haven't had too much enthusiasm for playing seriously since taking over the business, but this year I seem up for it. I'm in one final and also three other semi-finals, so I am obviously playing much better."

There will be no sentimentality when Paul lines up against Bobby, either: "I think it will be a nice spectacle for the club and obviously everybody is going to be rooting for Bobby. He won't be getting any favours from me because he has become such a good player.

"I generally have the edge on him when we practice together, but if I don't play well he could beat me quite comfortably."

The club also held a junior tournament on Saturday, which Paul described, as refreshing and great to see the etiquette and sportsmanship of those who took part.

Declan Ambrose won the event by beating Richard Dalton in the final. In the plate event Adam Lawson defeated Sonny Cocks.
