WENDRON United manager Paul Murray was full of praise for his side after they won the Combination League Cup with ten men.
Luke Wort was shown a straight red card in the fourth minute of Sunday’s match against Ludgvan but Dron managed to pull off a remarkable victory after extra time and a penalties.
Murray said he was “over the moon” with the victory and was delighted with the character shown by his team.
“If I had 11 man-of-the-match trophies, or maybe ten, I would give all the players one,” he said.
“Chris Madeley was given the nod for man-of-the-match, but all the guys dug in well and saw us through to the end.
“I don’t want to say too much as his head is big enough already, but Jon Row was superb in the penalty shoot-out and if the award had been made after the penalties, he would have definitely got it. He won us the cup.
“I don’t think Ludgvan really took advantage of having an extra man for pretty much the whole game and that allowed us to stay in with a shout.”
On top of their nine remaining league fixtures, Dron will now also play for the Evely Cup against Tavistock Reserves after the Devon side claimed the East Cornwall Premier League Cup title, beating Torpoint Athletic 3-0 on Sunday.
A date and venue for this clash is still to be decided.
