HELSTON COLTS 10pts

FALOUTH COLTS 20pts

BOTH Colts teams throughout the season have been supplying personnnel to help one another make a team, an arrangement which has been beneficial to both sides, and indeed, made sure that the opposition was supplied for a game to happen in the first place.

However, on this occasion both Helston and Falmouth mustered a team each to create what could only be described as a pulsating and nail biting encounter and where longstanding friendships were forgotten.

Falmouth disappointed and for 20 minutes played some very poor tactical rugby, often not connecting the brain when the ball was in hand and allowing Helston to take advantage. Speedy winger James McInnis open ed the scoring, but after some positional changes were made, it opened the floodgates for the visitors three- quarters to score three well-worked tries, all through elusive running and quick passing. Centre Ben Ambrose, full back Paul Stephens and fly half Tom Honey all scored.

At the interval Falmouth led 15-5 and looked the more likely candidates for the win, but to their credit Helston stuck at their task and scored the best try of the game. After good forward support fly half Jago Rosevear hoisted the perfect kick for winger James Cheesman to draw the full back, pass inside, and collect the return to score wide out for 10-15.

For the last 20 minutes both sets of supporters encouraging their teams with all to play for. The game was finally clinched through Falmouth's impressive handling with backs and forwards and young Paul Stephens getting his second try from the centre position.

The Falmouth pack was well served by man-of-the-match Toby Mears who switched from prop to second row. Young under 16 players Paul Stephens, Ben Warwicker and Mike Eva all made their debut and looked the part whilst there was a welcome return, after injury, on the flank by Jack O'Hanlon. Mark Rose looked far more at home when switched to full back.

For Helston, Kiran Davies impressed as centre as did prop Scott Blandford. Nick Hort, flanker, was his usual nuisance to opponents and Simon Vincent at full back tackled well.

The Hell-Fal combined sides have two games, April 19 away to Perranporth and April 20 away to Hayle. Players should meet at the Recreation Ground at 5.30pm prompt for transport. If in doubt contact Arthur Williams.
