IT'S been a busy two weeks for the junior section at Falmouth Golf Club.
Falmouth played their first league match of the season away at Killiow and obtained an excellent result, drawing 3-3 with wins from Katie Rule, Luke Geach and Joe Durkin.
Falmouth then played their second league match at home against Killiow. Katie Rule was unable to play, but the team still won 4- 1 with wins from James Cloke, Todd Butler, Luke Geach and Jake Gifford and an excellent half from Joe Durkin winning the last two holes to finish all square.
Falmouth's next Junior League match is away against Tehidy.
The Juniors Winter League has finished and the winner was Katie Rule by one point, just beating Todd Butler and James Cloke, who were joint second.
Last Sunday the first main competition of the summer was played, the 'Phillips Foursomes, and was won with 39 points by up and coming John Cambell partnering Joe Durkin.
An additional note of interest is that junior girl Katie Rule played in the Senior Ladies County Golf Championships at Tehidy. She lost on the 19th hole in the quarter finals of the "Plate" to the eventual winner.
Todd Butler entered the Daily Telegraph competition which was played at Launceston in perfect conditions on a glorious hot day. He was the only Junior to represent Falmouth out of a field of 64 juniors and finished third with a gross score of 78 and he also recorded the second best nett score of 68 .
The Percy Gilbert Trophy was played at Falmouth Golf Club on Bank Holiday Monday and attracted 60 entries. Conditions were ideal and Ross Durkin took full advantage and recorded a splendid nett 64 to win the competition from Keith Bennetts who carded a great nett 66. Keith beat John Gresson on count-back to push John into third place.

Falmouth Golf Club held the first Spring Open of the year on Thursday and attracted a record 135 entries from all over the county. The competition was kindly sponsored by Nick Botting of Pippa's and Indaba Fish Falmouth.
Conditions were absolutely perfect and there were some great prizes up for grabs for nearest the pin on all the par three holes, nearest the pin with the second shot on the par four 15th hole and longest drive on the 17th hole.
Don Pengelly from Whitsand Bay was nearest the pin on the second hole, his ball finishing only seven inches from the pin. Steve Robbins from Falmouth got nearest the pin on the fifth hole with 4 ft 1 in. Mike Uren from Cape Cornwall got his ball 4 ft 11 ins from the pin on the eighth and Andy Hawkins won nearest the pin on the 11th, his ball finishing 4 ft 9 ins from the pin.
The nearest the pin competition in two shots on the par four 15th was won by Bob Brown of Falmouth and the longest drive was won by Steve Robbins who hit an absolute monster on the 17th.
The main competition was a Stableford format, played in teams of three with the best two scores to count on every hole. The winning team of Norman Stanley Bulpin, Dave Holland and John Gresson scored a brilliant 86 points - the team reckoned the telling factor was Norman Stanley's putting. He was deadly with anything left within eight to six feet.
Nicky Chinn, Micky Doust and Andy Hawkins were second with a fine 84 points and Mick Wells, Gerry Storey and Graham Buck were third with 79 points.
