A TRIO of Cornish Pirates stars played a big part in the Pacific Nations Cup for Canada in the last month, writes Athena Chrysanthou.
Brett Beukeboom, Aaron Carpenter and Matt Evans were all in the Canucks squad showed strong competitiveness despite losing four games.
Canada lost of their opening two games against Japan and Tonga followed by a loss to Samoa.
Their fifth place play-off in the Swangard Stadium, Burnaby, saw Canada fall to the USA 15-13, with the winning score coming in the 80th minute.
After the tournament, Carpenter said: “We gave a full performance against the USA, but ultimately it was another disappointing loss for us.”
Fiji won the competition, beating Samoa 39-29 in the final, with former Camborne and Exeter Chiefs star Josh Matavesi featuring for the islanders.
