GREENBANK Falmouth Rowing Club has had one of its most successful years in the club's history with crews securing wins at all regattas including 11 wins out of 11 races at Bideford in late August.
The season has gone from strength to strength and resulted in five crews from the club being selected and invited to represent the West of England Amateur Rowing Association (WEARA) at the 51st South Coast Championships at Dorney Lake, Windsor, the venue for the rowing at the 2012 Olympics.
The club had a very successful day with crews coming a very close second in the men's veteran fours, the men's junior senior fours (Greenbank's only WEARA champions) and the ladies senior fours with the men's senior crew being placed fourth in the prestigious Bideford Bowl event.
The club was up against very tough competition in all sections with a high standard of rowing all round.
The highlight of the day for Greenbank was a win for the ladies junior fours making them the first women's crew in Greenbank's history to win a South Coast Championship.
Club chairman, Jackie George, said: "This has been a fantastic day for all competitors. The atmosphere, facilities and standard of rowing has been amazing - so different to rowing in Cornwall.
"The fact that we have won the ladies junior fours is an added bonus and has made all the training all the more worthwhile."
Crew members Emily Druce, Jackie George, Hannah Gethin, Jo Beardshaw and cox Jackie Crang were presented with their trophy and medals by five-times Olympic gold medallist, Matthew Pinsent, making it an extra special day for all the girls.
