PENRYN Rugby Club take the opportunity to send the Chiefs and Colts to Plymouth to play their respective counterparts at Devonport Services on Saturday.

The two clubs have not met for several years, so the 1st XV will be an interesting game. Services are a long way from the club that they used to be, when they and United Services Portsmouth, each had first-class fixture lists, but the reduction in serving RN personnel, together with the introduction of professional rugby, have forced them to become open clubs.

However, Services have started the season well, with wins over Bude (26- 14 at home) and Minehead Barbarians (32-17 away), but they lost a close game, 21-18, at Ivybridge. These statistics, together with their fifth position in the league, suggest that it will be a tough game at The Rectory Field.

One or two players picked up injuries in the Wadebridge game, so the selectors have delayed naming the team and substitutes until later in the week.

In a very new and young squad they will also want to assess one or two players who are challenging for first team places.

Penryn will be hoping that they can halt their losing streak with a win on Devon soil.
