TWO promising young tennis players will have plenty to look back on during the winter after enjoying a phenomenal success during the summer.
The two Truro Tennis Club players, Claire Tresidder, 15, from Falmouth, and Emily Wicks, 13, of Penzance, entered six tournaments as a doubles pairing and excelled in all. They reached the semi-final of the Torbay Open where they knocked out the number two and four seeds.
The girls won the Truro, Penzance and Junior County Closed tournament and also reached the semi-final of the Penzance Senior Open and the Senior County Closed, losing to the eventual winners in a tight three-set match.
In the singles events Emily entered three under 14 tournaments - winning the county u14 title, reaching the quarter-final of the Torbay Open and also winning the prestigious Nike Junior Tour. She will now travel to London to compete in the Masters Final.
Claire's success couldn't have been any better; she narrowly missed out winning the Ladies County Closed title to the 10-times winner Clare Hudson in an extremely tight three-set match, losing the final set nine games to 11.
She won the u16 Penzance Junior Singles, was a runner-up in the u18's; a semi-finalist in the Penzance Senior Open and also in the mixed doubles partnering James Preston.
Truro Junior Tournament proved very successful for Claire. She took the u16 title with ease and competing in the Cornwall Junior County Closed won the 16s and also beat her Truro club counterpart, friend and long-term rival Sophie Weedon in the u18s. She was also awarded the "most improved girl player" by the county officals.
To top it all Claire and Emily represented Truro Ladies A in the Morton Nance Cup and defeated Penzance at the Newquay Heron Tennis Centre. They are quite possibly the youngest pairing to do so.
