THE Whirlwind Sports Falmouth-Helston League's Percy Stephens Cup has always been an unfailing source of upsets down the years and the opening skirmishes proved no exception.
First division Lizard Argyle, the cupholders, were ousted in the first round after going down 2-0 to unbeaten Truro City III. City's goals came fromAlec Penrose and Will Harvey.
Falmouth Town III overcame Frogpool/Cusgarne 2-0 with goals from Tim Hurrell and Mark Rios and a single goal from L Bridger helped Perranwell to a narrow 1-0 win against Pendeen.
Ben Cox's goal for Lanner was in vain against Mawgan United who cruised to a 6-1 win.
St Keverne had another thumping win, 6-1 against Ruan Minor, with the goals coming from Alan Thomas (4), Steve Hosking, and Phil James.
Mawnan had a comfortable 8-1 win against Hayle III after notching goals through Gregg Renfree (3), Paul Murray, Damian Stevens, Duncan Whatmore, Chris Earl and Ollie Miller.

In division one Helston Res extended their lead at the top of the table after a convincing 4-0 win at St Agnes Res and Holmans Res won 5-0 at St Day Res.
Mawnan Res were 5-1 winners at Hayle IV after scoring all their goals in a 12-minute spell. Ryan Whitbread (2), Sean Rickard, Dan Crowle, and Alex Weddell scored the goals.
Falmouth Albion Res won 3-1 against Wendron IV and Perranporth Res won 3-2 against Trispen.
