FALMOUTH Town progressed through to the next round of the South West Peninsula's League's Throgmorton Cup after seeing off a plucky Mousehole side who never gave up the cause until the final whistle.

Town were straight at Mousehole from the start, and after just four minutes Kain Bond brought a good save out of home 'keeper Ian Chatfield after he cut past two defenders and hit a low shot from just inside the area.

Four minutes later Town were ahead. Andy Bowker hit a stinging shot which Chatfield could only parry and Matt Cusack followed up to blast home from eight yards.

Shortly after, Bowker was on a run at goal when a timely interception by home defender Kelvin Snell forced the ball out for a corner which resulted in Town's captain Rob Francis, on his 50th appearance for Falmouth, heading the ball straight at the 'keeper.

A few minutes later Town forced another corner which was cleared away but Bowker regained possession and hit a long shot from wide on the right which skimmed the crossbar.

After 22 minutes, Town went 2-0 up. Bowker cut in from the right and ran along the front of the penalty area before unleashing a thunderous left foot shot which left the 'keeper rooted to the spot as the ball flew past him and smashed into the back of the net.

Mousehole tried to get a foothold in the game, but Town's defence were well on top, and the only time their leading scorer, Emil Ivanov, got a shot in, Nathan Murphy gathered comfortably.

Bond had a good run and shot which the 'keeper turned away for another corner, which Brinton Nute headed wide under pressure in a packed area.

Mousehole's cause was not helped when Ivanov sustained an injury after half an hour and limped off to be replaced by Toby Cape, who picked up a booking a couple of minutes later following a bad tackle.

Town forced several corners before half time, one of which saw Harper-Penman's header cleared off the line by Harvey.

Play switched to the other end and Mark George firstly saw his header go straight to Murphy and then a minute later, he cut in from the right and his shot from a tight angle hit the post.

Mousehole brought on Tom Patrick to replace Barry Prowse at the start of the second half, and he soon found his name going into referee Ben Lugg's notebook following a Town corner that saw Matt Cusack hit wide from close in.

There followed a period in which Town's passing and play became very sloppy and Mousehole gradually got more possession and started to get at Town's defence.

The home side brought on Jowan May to replace Joe Day, and Town brought on Darren Burchell for Harper-Penman.

Mousehole had a free kick 20 yards out, but May hit the ball over the bar, but after 65 minutes, Town went 3-0 ahead following Bond's shot from Bowker's perfect through ball.

Shortly after this, Glen Squires came on came on to replace Bowker who had had another good game for Town and five minutes later Fergus Nevin came on for Matt Cusack.

Darren Burchell had a couple of free kicks, both of which curled agonisingly wide of the post as Town went back on the attack.

After 83 minutes Mousehole had a free kick which Jack Wing floated into the middle, and substitute Cape hit it home from six yards to give The Seagulls a reward for their efforts.

Three minutes from the end another Nevin ran onto a long through ball from Bond on the left flank and blasted home Town's fourth goal from 15 yards to secure victory.

In the next round Town face a tricky tie away to Porthleven on Wednesday, October 17.

On Saturday Town entertain Ivybridge Town (2.45 pm) in the South West Peninsula League.
