Wendron United eased their way into the Third Round of the Walter C Parson Cup with a comfortable 6-1 thumping of SWPL East side Bovey Tracey.
A hat trick from Joe Souch, a brace from Cameron Wheat and a goal from Jacob Grange sealed the victory for Dron, who conceded a consolation goal to Finn Roberts late on.
The away side could have taken the lead in the fourth minute. Bovey broke free and utilised the pace of Roberts. His stinging shot was parried by Ethan Fearn and the rebound was hooked off the line by Lee Padgeth.
Wendron had a goalbound effort cleared off the line too in an action packed opening ten minutes. Reece Carroll delivered a dangerous inswinging corner that caused havoc in the area. A scramble ensued but Bovey did well to clear the danger.
Wendron began to get the ball down on the perfect playing surface at Underlane. Grange was played in behind with an incisive through ball but his cut back failed to find Wheat or Charlie Young in the area in the 22nd minute.
The hosts got the opening goal that their pressure had deserved thanks to Wheat in the 24th minute. Carroll again delivered a beautiful corner, and despite being the smallest in the area Wheat rose highest to head the ball down into the far corner to make it 1-0.
They were unlucky not to have doubled their lead in the 33rd minute. Jack Stocker was granted time and space to curl a shot from the edge of the area but his effort ricocheted off the inside of the post.
They didn't have to wait long for their second however as in the 36th minute it was 2-0. Tidy footwork from Grange gave the winger space to drive inside, he found Souch who rolled his man and thumped a shot into the top left corner to give Dron some breathing space.
After the break Bovey started the better of the two sides and Dron had to rely on the reflexes of Fearn in goal to maintain their lead. A deep cross picked out the unmarked Sean Finch but the strikers flicked header was well turned away by the Wendron goalkeeper.
The next goal in the game was always going to be an important one and Wendron managed to get it in the 56th minute. Another Carroll corner, this one slightly lower was met by the flying Wheat who volleyed the cross beyond the goalkeeper to make it 3-0.
Wendron were dominated proceedings and shortly after the hour they grabbed their fourth with what was the goal of the game. After losing possession Dron pressed high up the pitch and managed to win the ball back on the edge of the Bovey area.
The ball fell kindly to Souch who confidently struck his effort first time into the top left corner leaving the keeper helpless.
Souch was unfortunate not to seal his hat trick in the 72nd minute. The attacking midfielder linked up really nicely with Young, beat a defender before unleashing a curling effort from the edge of the area which unfortunately for him and Wendron came back off the crossbar.
Three goals in the space of four minutes kept the crowd on their toes. Grange grabbed the first of the flurry in the 81st minute.
Wheat initially won the ball back with a well timed slide tackle, it fell nicely to Young who directed a shot straight at the goalkeeper, however the man between the sticks failed to hold onto the ball and the rebound was gratefully put away by Grange.
In their next attack Wendron scored their sixth and final goal of the game when Joe Souch beat the offside trap before rounding the goalkeeper to make it 6-0 in the 82nd minute.
The only downside for Dron was a minute later they were picking the ball out of the net after Roberts was played in down the left. The winger used his pace to get away from Billy Stone before driving a low shot into the far corner in the 84th minute
The full time whistle soon followed as Wendron go into the next round of the cup. They will be hoping to replicate their cup form in their next match in the South West Peninsula League when they travel away to Sticker on Tuesday October 19.
