Falmouth and Penryn Amateur Boxing Club’s Brie Truscott lost a points decision verdict in a tough battle on Saturday, November 6.
For the second time this season Falmouth and Penryn ABC travelled to the Acorn Leisure centre in Torquay to participate in a show organised by the Torbay ABC.
This time it would be upcoming 15 year-old boxer Brie Truscott who would enter the ring for his second competitive bout against Mitchell Braithwaite of the Norton Radstock ABC in Somerset.
The bout was 11th in a 16 fight event and was contested in the junior 58kg category over three x two minute rounds.
Braithwaite rushed out of his corner from the opening bell, forcing Truscott back to the ropes with his rangier long arms, using his left jabs and quick combinations to control much of the first round. Although Truscott did enjoy success at close range catching the taller boxer with a couple of powerful overhand right scoring punches near the end of the first.
Braithwaite started the second round in much the same fashion, this time however the Falmouth and Penryn boxer used his footwork to close the distance and then landed dazzling combination punches.
The round was highly competitive with both boxers demonstrating their skills with electric exchanges in the centre of the ring, neither one dominating the action.
The third round saw Braithwaite land some heavy right hand shots early, his taller figure and longer arms working to his advantage as he cleverly scored shots then tied up Truscott and pushed him back to the ropes.
Truscott never stopped working and landed some terrific body shots in the final round although it wasn’t enough this time, and the judges awarded the boxer from Norton Radstock the decision in what was a tough and well fought contest.
Looking to put the loss behind him, Truscott alongside two other boxers from the Falmouth and Penryn club will be making an appearance at the Bideford Boxing Club’s sell out black tie event this Friday.
