ADAM Porter’s second-half goal was the difference on Saturday afternoon as City defeated Eastbourne Borough 1-0 in the National League South, writes Cameron Weldon.
The midfielder struck the winner 17 minutes from time to give Truro their first away win of the season at Priory Lane.
Coming into this game off the back of three straight defeats Paul Wotton wanted a reaction from his players.
In an opening 45 minutes, shy of much goal-mouth action Ed Palmer blocked a shot from the edge of the box before up the other end Porter hit a low strike straight at the keeper.
Eastbourne who were also coming into the game off the back of a few defeats had a shot go straight across the face of the goal but nobody was there to tap home.
Sam Sanders then forced the keeper to tip the ball away following a header from a Will Dean corner.
Two big chances followed for City. Skipper Connor Riley-Lowe was found at the back post, but his volley went wide while Harvey Greenslade found room in the box but hit his effort over the bar.
Into the second half, Eastbourne went in search of any opener.
Jamie Pardington saved a low drive before Ryan Law made a last-ditched challenge to stop a free ball across goal.
Law was involved again. He blocked an initial shot from Alfie Bridgman and the rebound was blasted high and wide from close range. A massive opportunity going to waste for the hosts.
That missed chance came back to haunt the hosts as City broke the deadlock on 73 minutes.
Tyler Harvey brought the ball down in the box. He played it to Obed Yeboah who tried an audacious acrobatic effort, but he couldn’t connect. It then fell to Porter who stroked it into the far bottom left-hand corner. That was his third goal of the season.
Eastbourne applied some late pressure but failed to really test Pardington as City managed to see the game out and claim a much-needed three points.
Eastbourne Borough 0-1 Truro City
