WHAT a fantastic performance from the mighty Ambers yesterday at Bickland Park to stay top of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.
The first half started in familiar fashion as Town dominated proceedings with some lovely controlled possession football. The breakthrough came around mid-way through the half with a goal from Cam Hutchinson. Street, however, kept playing their football and looked a young side full of running and eventually equalised with a tremendous shot from 25 yards, just clearing keeper Morgan Coxhead's fingertips. The remainder of the first half remained a fairly even contest.
The score at half time was level at 1-1.
During the interval, Westy's words must have stuck in the player's heads as Town went straight on the attack, pressing Street back, and eventually found a second goal courtesy of Luke Barner who was having another impressive game.
From that point on, the goals kept coming with another from Luke Barner as well as Jared Simms, Jayden Gilbert, and finally a penalty from Cameron Hutchinson who continued his impressive goal-scoring form.
My Man of the Match would have to be young James Swan. He is part of a back four who I believe are the best in the Western League. Swanny, Wardy, Tom, and Bradley are simply the best and Swanny has played consistently all season and yesterday played great once again.
These really are glorious times at Bickland Park. Westy has produced a team full of youngsters, sprinkled with experience, that is playing the best football seen for many a season. They're a joy to watch. Every player runs his heart out for the badge and they are all super fit. Add this to their undoubted quality and the mighty Town is top of the league.
Town are also top of the Western League attendance table with an average league attendance of 363. Bridgewater are second with 289.
The next match will be against Shepton Mallet on October 14 at Bickland Park and will kick off at 3pm.
