THE White Tigers made it back-to-back wins in the National League South after a convincing 3-1 victory over St Albans City at Bolitho Park, writes Cameron Weldon.
Goals from Andrew Neal, Will Dean and Adam Porter put City in cruise control before George Hoddle scored a late consolation for the visitors in the dying embers.
City started the game brightly in Plymouth. Skipper Connor Riley-Lowe delivered the ball into a dangerous area where Neal attacked but headed wide of the target.
Ryan Law’s cross from the left-hand side was half-cleared by the St Albans defence to the edge of the box where it fell to Ed Palmer, but he hit his volley wide.
Harvey Greenslade was played in by Man of the Match winner Riley-Lowe, but his shot lacked conviction and was straight at the visiting keeper.
Just a few minutes later another big chance went begging for the White Tigers. Ryan Brett’s corner was narrowly headed over the crossbar by Ben Adelsbury.
City restricted the visitors to very little in forward areas, forcing them to shoot from outside the box.
St Albans keeper Josh McNamara then nearly had a moment to forget as he misplaced a pass straight to the path of Rocky Neal, but he was bailed out by his defender who got in front of City’s top scorer's attempt.
Truro got their deserved breakthrough in first-half stoppage time. Neal was hauled to the floor inside the box leaving the referee no other choice than to point to the spot.
Neal got up and took the penalty, expertly slotting home sending the keeper the wrong way to give his side the lead at the break.
Into the second half, Truro’s dominance continued. Neal blasted a strike high over the crossbar from the edge of the area before it was soon 2-0.
Adam Porter’s ball into the box was only half-cleared by the Saints to the edge of the box.
Dean picked up the loose ball, chested it down and then rifled it towards the bottom left corner. His strike smashed against the post but fortuitously rebounded onto the back of the outstretched keeper and into the net.
Harun Hamid had an audacious hit from long range go high and wide for the visitors while up the other end, Greenslade got on the end of a Palmer pass but his effort was well blocked.
James Hamon who had a quiet afternoon up to that point was called into action to make a brilliant save to push away Shaun Jeffers's curling shot.
Hamon then played a role in City’s third goal. His long kick was nodded on by Greenslade to Neal who took the ball down and played in substitute Matt Buse who squared it across goal to an unmarked Porter who tapped home, his fourth goal of the season.
Moments later Neal was denied a stunning second. He latched onto a misplaced pass just inside the St Albans half. He spotted the keeper off his line and tried his luck. The keeper was scrambling back and managed to get there to catch the forward's speculative effort.
The visitors gave their traveling supporters something to cheer about with a late consolation goal deep into stoppage time when substitute Hoddle nodded in a looping Dylan Fage cross.
A perfect end to a perfect week for Truro who travel to highflying Maidstone United next on Tuesday evening.
