Falmouth Town FC hope to make history next month after raising enough money to fund a flight to its next away game in Jersey as part of the FA Vase Cup.
The club is through to the last 16 of the cup for non-professional teams and has a loyal following known as the F-Troop which they wanted to be able to fly to the crucial match.
It said the troop wanted to be able to support the club at the game and had the opportunity to hire a plane to fly straight to Jersey from Newquay.
However they need to raise £2,500 to pay for it and organised a Crowdfunder to try and raise the money. Now just days after the appeal was launched the club has raised enough cash to pay for the flight to the match.
Posting on Facebook fundraising page, the organisers said: “Fantastic effort by everyone today.
“Waiting on just one person to pay then it's every passenger fully paid up.
“Well done F-Troop.”
The club has organised the chartered flight to take the F Troop to Jersey on the February 10, 2024 to get as many fans there as possible. Prices had tripled on the day of the match due to the interest it has generated, hence the need for the fundraiser.
“This is a massive game for Falmouth Town the 5th round of the FA Vase three wins from Wembley,” said organiser of the Crowdfunder appeal Jeffery Chambers. “Imagine Cornwall football fans all heading for Wembley in the final. The reason we organised a chartered flight is that flight costs were tripled on the day of the match due to the volume of our interest.
“We are the 12th man cheering on our team.”
