Helston Athletic scored their 100th goal of the season on Saturday in a comfortable 2-0 away victory over Buckland Athletic in the Tool Station Western League.
A matchup touted as a massively important match for both teams, the encounter saw first and fourth in the league face off on Saturday.
The match started with a bang as Helston attempted their first effort on target just two minutes in, with Buckland's goalkeeper Tyler Coombes intercepting a header.
A vigorous pace was set in the opening ten minutes, with both teams eager to establish dominance early on in the game.
Buckland found a glimmer of hope at the 19th minute when player Sam Morcom directed a square pass across the goal.
Reece Shanley slid in to try and meet the ball, but missed as a goalless half drew to a close.
After the teams re-emerged for the second half, Helston made their mark at the 49th minute with a skilfully delivered penalty.
Helston's Jordan Copp went straight down the middle, with Buckland 'keeper Tyler Coombes diving left.
Helston continued to showcase their prowess in the 70th minute, scoring their 100th competitive goal of the season through a fantastic cross from Jordan Copp to Rikki Shepherd.
The game finished 2-0 to Helston, and a club spokesperson said: "Thank you to our travelling supporters."
In response, Buckland Athletic thanked the 363 supporters who showed up for the game, saying: "We hope the players, management, club officials and visiting supporters from Helston AFC travel home safely."
The victory secured Helston's position at the top of the league, and Buckland slipped to fifth place.
The two teams will face each other again on February 6 in the Tool Station Western League Les Phillips Cup quarter final.
Also playing on Saturday were Helston AFC's development team, who drew 1-1 with Illogan Royal British Legion.
A Helston spokesperson said: "Starting with eight under 18s, the youngsters disappointingly left Oxland Parc with just a point".
There was further weekend action with Helston Women achieving a 2-0 victory over Middlezoy RLFC in the South West Women's Football League Western Division.
Similarly, Downderry Rovers fell to a 2-8 defeat against Helston AFC in the Cornwall FA Sunday Cup quarter final.
