Mawnan were crowned champions of division one of the Kernow Stone St Piran Football League after they defeated Wendron III 3-2 in midweek, writes Leon Prynn.
It was their final game of the season and put an end to any possible threat from RNAS Culdrose who had to win all their remaining games and overturn a goal difference of 53 should Mawnan have lost.
It was the culmination of a terrific campaign for The Greens who began the season with an opening-day defeat and then lost just one more league game for the rest of the season.
A competitive fixture saw Mawnan take a two-goal lead within five minutes through Dom Pullen and Ben Harris and although Zach Alexander and Xolani Tukulula both netted for Wendron, Harris struck again with what was the winner.
On the same night RNAS Culdrose edged past Porthleven Reserves 2-1 with goals from Josh Robins and Jamie Thirkle after James Salter had given The Fishermen a first minute lead.
All the goals came in the first half as Threemilestone overcame Camborne SoM 4-1 with goals from Jack Bradshaw (2), James Davies and Tom Goodman. Kristoff Muller scored for the students.
St Day are ending the season with a good run of results after a 3-1 win at St Agnes Reserves thanks to goals from Jacob Cleverly, Kiall Maugham and Nathan Taylor. Ollie Keveren replied for Saints.
Praze-an-Beeble are through to the semi-finals of the Evely Cup after they won 2-0 away to Hayle Reserves with a brace of goals from Jack Mankee.
Scott McElwee hit a hat-trick for Wendron United IIIs against Camborne SoM on Thursday, but ended up on the losing side after the students won 7-4. Zach Alexander scored the other goal and the Mines replied through Jack Geldard (2), Gillan McDonnell (2), Oscar Donaldson (2) and an own goal.
Wendron III completed a busy week with a hard-earned 1-1 draw against RNAS Culdrose. Braden Danaher scored for the servicemen. In the second of two 60-minute games between the sides, Culdrose emerged 3-0 winners after Connor Walker snapped up a hat-trick.
St Day Reserves were 2-0 winners at Threemilestone.
In division three Probus missed out on finishing in the top two spots on goal difference despite a valiant effort after hammering Falmouth DC 7-1 with goals from Sam Bullen (4) and Tyler Cheshire (3). Ben Glanville scored for DC. Holmans SC finished seven goals ahead of Probus.
The clash of the day on Saturday was the East v West premier league winners meeting in the Champions Cup at Wadebridge with St Day chalking up their best victory of the season with a 3-1 win.
With both sides unbeaten in the league, a competitive first half saw Dan Richards run on to a through ball and beat the ’keeper from outside the box to put St Day in front.
St Dominick equalised early in the second half, but St Day regained the lead in the 71st minute when Sam Buckley cut in and scored with a well-placed shot into the far corner of the net.
St Day came under pressure during the closing stages, but defended superbly with Tyler Oliver a bundle of energy in midfield and in the 90th minute Gavin Boon was put through by Tyler Buckley to wrap up victory for St Day when he slipped his shot past the ’keeper.
Redruth United were unable to overhaul St Agnes at the foot of the premier division after they went down 4-0 to Hayle and Kayne Trevaskis notched a brace for Perranwell in their 2-2 draw with Mousehole Development.
In the Percy Stephens Cup East v West Final, also at Wadebridge, Dropship picked up their third trophy of the season after defeating Gerrans and St Mawes United 4-2. On target for Dropship was Oscar Fergus-Gay, Conner Hurrell, Tyler Prescott and Paul Robertson. Jason Busby and Sam Ward had United’s goals.
