THERE was no shortage of smiling faces at Clijah Croft on Saturday after Redruth United won their first match of the season in the Kernow Stone St Piran Football League premier division (West), writes Leon Prynn.
They came out on top against local rivals Praze-an-Beeble with a well deserved 4-1 win with the goals coming from Matt Wysocki (2), Cole Adams and Ben Medlin.
Falmouth Town Reserves bounced back to form with an excellent 3-1 win away to Mousehole Development after Kian Thomas snapped up a hat-trick, but Illogan RBL are still snapping at their heels after thumping St Just 7-0 after scoring six first-half goals. Connor Arthur (3), Louis Matthews (2), Callum Smith and Macaulay Negus had the goals.
Unbeaten Hayle closed the gap on rivals Wendron United Reserves with a 3-0 win. Cameron Irish bagged a brace of goals with Kieran Rennard scoring the other goal.
Pendeen Rovers and Mullion shared the points after the teams finished all square at 2-2 with Jacob Paul scoring both Pendeen goals and St Agnes had an emphatic 5-1 win against Penryn Athletic. Jude Hogg scored for Athletic.
Camborne SoM opened their account in division one (West) with a resounding 8-1 win against Threemilestone who last week hammered nine goals past Constantine. Matt Toms scored for the ’Stones.
St Ives Town and Ludgvan drew 2-2 with Oakley Brom and Anthony Cornish scoring for Town Illogan RBL Res made it three wins from three games after pulling off a very good 3-2 win at West Cornwall with goals from Ned Pritchard, Ashley Smith and an own goal. Ben Kellow and Robertas Sumnauskas scored for West Cornwall.
In the George Evely Cup RNAS Culdrose were narrow 2-1 winners against St Day Reserves after scoring through Conor Bowman and William Burgess.
Lanner gave Wendron III a bit of a fright before eventually losing a penalty shootout. The sides finished 2-2 after extra time with Scott McElwee and Lee Smith scoring for United.
Falmouth United scored two second half goals to overturn a 1-0 half-time deficit to beat Stithians 2-1 and goals from Tristan Hawkings (2) and Joshua Gilbert helped Lizard Argyle to a 3-0 win against St Agnes Res.
