Wadebridge Town 1 - Wendron United 2

Wendron United followed up on last week's penalty shootout heroics in the FA Vase, with a hard-fought 2-1 win away to Wadebridge Town.

Wendron had several changes from the St Blazey fixture with Joe Souch, Dan Greet, Seb Hobbs, Brodie Kemp and Callum Bertrand all unavailable. Billy Stone could only muster a place on the substitute benchwendr as he recovered from a strain in the previous fixture.

In their place were starts for Sam Fisher, Logan Taylor, Evan Tresidder, Kristoff Muller and a squad return for Jos Plummer and Rio Watson.

Wadebridge made three changes from the side that lined up against St Day, with Brad Rowe, Kyle Flew and Sam Wickens making way for Jacob Smale, Dylan Peters and Louis Taylor.

In the surprisingly hot conditions, it was Wendron who took initial hold of the game during the first ten minutes, and a quick link up found Kris Muller who released Ryan Reeve down the right. A first time cross was inch perfect for Josh Wood who made no mistake with a left foot volley.

This shook Wadebridge into action, who then got a foothold in the game and really put the visitors under pressure for the remainder of the half.

Billy Hopcroft, Matt Lloyd and Keiron Bishop were a constant menace to The Dron, and the warning bells were realised when Kieron Bishop found himself running at the defensive line, cutting onto his right foot and unleashing a long range effort from 25 yards past Telling to level the scores on 13 minutes.

It was then a sustained period of Wadebridge pressure; on 17 minutes Hopcroft teed up Lloyd, although the miscued shot was comfortably gathered by Telling.

In the 36th minute, Wadebridge thought they had taken the lead, when Hopcroft this time found Jacob Smale 20 yards out, who despite being quickly closed by Roberts lashed a thunderous effort which crashed the post.

Wadebridge continued to pursue the goal to nod them in front before the break, however were unable to convert their good possession and pressure into another goal.

Wendron came out in a slight change of shape and regained a foothold of the game during the early stages of the second half.

The first opportunity of the second half fell to Muller, after a bouncing ball fell to him 18 yards out, however his left footed strike didn't force Rosevear into a save.

Jos Plummer replaced Evan Tresidder on 63 minutes, and his direct running from the left allowed him to cut back for Carroll, who was unable to correct his feet and flashed the ball over from 12 yards.

Rio Watson was introduced on 70 minutes for Logan Taylor and four minutes later found himself free in the final third, picking out Ryan Reeve's run, who made no mistake with the finish into the bottom left corner giving Wendron the lead for the second time in the game.

With 15 minutes to play, Wadebridge committed more players in to the attack and began to test the resolve of the opposition defence, winning a series of corners and freekicks and in the 96th minute, despite strong shouts, had a penalty claim turned down when Jose Berenguer went down in the box.

In Wadebridge's search for an equaliser, the game opened up and Wendron had two opportunities to put the game beyond the hosts, with Kris Muller breaking the line and cut the ball back into the path of Jos Plummer, who couldn't keep the ball under the bar.

Moments later, an almost carbon-copy chance occurred with Muller beating the last man, seeing his shot parried to Plummer who this time went for placement over power; however a Wadebridge defender was able to recover and clear the lofted shot off the line.

The match finished 1-2 to Wendron.
