Wendron United are anticipating a large attendance tonight (Wednesday, October 2) when they play their near neighbours, Helston Athletic, in the first round of the Cornwall Senior Cup, writes Joss Bray.

In the last two years there have been a number of promotions out of the South West Peninsula League West into the Western League (step 5) and then into the Southern League (step 4).

Though Wendron (step 6) playing Helston (step 4) looks a mismatch, anything can happen in Cup football and upsets occur. A prime example were Maidstone United last season having an FA Cup run, when they beat teams in the Football League.

In the last four seasons Wendron United have had a fine Cup record, reaching three Senior Cup semi-finals and a final, when they lost 1-0 to Falmouth Town.

On November 9, 2022 this was avenged when two wonder strikes from Wendron players ensured a 2-0 victory at Bickland Park, over then Western League Falmouth Town.

Only last Saturday Wendron reached the first round proper of the FA Vase, after beating St Blazey on penalties, having been level at 4-4 after extra time.
