Jaze Kabia’s sixth goal of the season was enough to see Truro City record back-to-back wins in the National League South, writes Gareth Davies.

The Tinners were good value for all three points against a Hemel Hempstead side who were undefeated at the top of the pile

Truro settled into the game quickly and after just 13 minutes, the deadlock was broken.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long throw delivery caused havoc in the Hemel box and the loose ball was seized upon by Kabia at the back post, who finished well.

That was the first goal Bobby Wilkinson’s side had shipped on the road this season and they were fortunate not to concede again before the break.

Hemel did have a chance to draw level after 31 minutes.

City coughed up the ball and Alfie Cerulli drove towards goal, curling his shot past the post after it took a deflection.

Tyler Harvey then headed Will Dean’s free-kick straight into King’s arms before Truro’s number nine was picked out by Riley-Lowe, but the ball was deflected wide.

Hemel huffed and puffed in search of a leveller after half-time.

With 15 minutes left, Kyran Wiltshire had Hemel’s only shot of note on target in the whole game, but his tame effort was easily gathered by Lavercombe.

Six minutes of stoppage time was signalled by the fourth official but Truro held firm to record a fine win, with the club’s 135th birthday celebration capped off in the best way possible.

Assistant boss Stewart Yetton says his Truro City side were "good value" for their win.

He said: "It was an absolutely fantastic victory for us.

"Hemel came here today in great form and haven’t lost all season.

"They hadn’t conceded a goal away from home so we knew it would be a tough game.

"Bobby gets his teams very well organised so with that in mind, we are delighted to come away with three points.

"It was very tough conditions for both sides, but on the balance of play, we were good value for the victory."

Yetton continued: “We scored in the first half and we had an opportunity or two that we should have done better with.

“We did think that there would be a bit of an onslaught and although Hemel had a bit of pressure at times, I only think Dan Lavercombe had a couple of long shots to save."

He added: "The old cliché is of not getting too high when you win, nor too low when you lose, but we can’t get away from the fact this is a great win.

"It is still very early in the season and we will treat this victory like every other, because any victory in this league is a good one.”

The win lifts City up to fifth in the table, continuing the side’s excellent start to life under new boss John Askey.

Truro City will not be back in action until October 19 when they host Hampton & Richmond Borough at the TCS.
