It may already be a bit early in the season for crucial matches to take place in the Kernow Stone St Piran Football League (West) premier division, but Illogan RBL put down their marker at Oxland Park on Saturday with a clear-cut 3-0 win over former leaders Falmouth Town, writes Leon Prynn.
Illogan maintained their 100 per cent record with goals from Levi Hilling, Jordan Knuckey and Cameron Smith.
Hayle held on to fourth spot after they were 2-0 winners against Perranwell, but at the other end of the table St Just are anchored to the bottom after they went down 2-1 to Mullion Res. Caleb Marsden scored for Saints and Tom Giles and Ryan Tonkin netted for Mullion.
Penryn Athletic are just one place above the Saints after they were beaten 3-0 at home by Praze-an-Beeble and goals from Callum Bertrand, Darcy Knibb, Liam Paddock and Perran Burley helped Wendron United III to a 4-1 win against St Agnes.
Mousehole Development’s game with Redruth United was postponed and Pendeen Rovers had a walk-over in the Tracy Banfield Cup after St Austell were unable to raise a side.
Troon ended Mawnan’s 100 per cent record in division one when they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.
Mawnan were reduced to ten men after 19 minutes and Troon quickly took the lead through Aaron Gates, but by the second half goals from Luke Wort (penalty) and Adam Keenan edged Mawnan in front. However Gates had the last word with a well-taken finish to earn his side a well-deserved draw.
Ludgvan won a tight contest with Porthleven Reserves 2-1 after snapping up two second half goals. Port led 1-0 at the break with a goal from Willem Lowdon.
RNAS Culdrose finally launched their league campaign with a 2-0 win at Penzance Reserves with the goals coming from Jack Martin and Josh Robins.
Two goals in each half paved the way for Threemilestone’s first league win of the season when they defeated Hayle Reserves 4-2. On target for the ’Stones was Jack Bradshaw (2), Alex Rose and Jack Medlin with Ellis May and Louis Teague replying for Hayle.
Both West Cornwall and St Day were looking for their opening league win and it was West Cornwall who came out on top with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Sam Kevern, Jowan Kitchener and Robertas Sumnauskas.
Holman SC found Lizard Argyle quite a handful in division two before squeezing home 1-0 with a goal from Callum Faulkner.
Stithians were unable to raise a side to play leaders Dropship whilst third-placed Falmouth United won a high-scoring 6-4 game against Probus.
Frogpool/Cusgarne won their first league match with a 4-2 success over Perranwell Reserves with goals from William Waterton (2), Joseph Bersey and Josh Jones. Jack Evans snapped up a brace for Perran.
Lanner were convincing 5-2 winners against St Buryan after Finlay Harry and Jake Maddern scored for Saints and Constantine went down 6-1 at home to Newlyn Non-Athletico. Alex Prynn scored for Constantine.
St Agnes Res and Mawnan Reserves shared the points after they drew 1-1 with Dawson Smith scoring Mawnan’s equaliser.
St Keverne closed the gap on division three’s second placed Perranporth after a 3-2 win over Pendeen Rovers Reserves. Saints’ goals came from Issac Richards, Alfie Ruse and Paul Rushforth.
St Just Reserves had an emphatic 4-0 win away to Mullion Reserves with George Steadman (2), Nick Hichens and James Reynolds snapping up the goals.
Troon Reserves extended their lead at the top of division four to three points after winning 4-0 at Lizard Argyle Reserves and Perranporth Reserves, who scored through Bryn Cox, were held to a 1-1 draw away to Probus Reserves who scored through Ben Daniell.
Wendron United IV were 5-2 winners at Storm with Tom Orchard (2), Finn Hibbins, Will Perry and Charlie Bayliss scoring for United and Jacob Read and Conner Trevena replying for Storm.
Lloyd Piper and Dan Scholes scored for Goonhavern Athletic Reserves at Newlyn Non-Athletico Reserves, but were beaten 3-2.
St Ives Mariners caused an upset in the Percy Stephens Cup second round when they defeated division three leaders Falmouth DC 2-1 with goals from Matt Probin and Bijan Akbari.
Perranporth were 3-0 winners away to RNAS Culdrose Reserves with goals from Ryan Faulkner, Oliver Keveren and Ben Lawrence whilst Goonhavern Athletic hammered a game St Day III 15-2.
Dropship Reserves had a convincing 5-0 win against Falmouth Athletic with the goals coming from Pete Norfolk (2), Barry Penfold (2) and Dan Reeve.
Logan Hotton (2) and Ross Williams scored the goals in Holman SC’s 3-0 win against Speak Out United and Mawgan were 6-3 winners against Chacewater after scoring through Billy Jane (3), Dominic Williams, Ben Rosevear and Stan Burtenshaw.
