Camborne 41 - Hinckley 19

Camborne moved to the top of the National Two West table with a convincing victory over Hinckley in the sunshine at the Recreation Ground, writes Martin Symons

The Cherry & Whites started strongly playing down the slope and soon took the lead with centre Josh Matavesi throwing a dummy and charging over. Kyle Moyle added the conversion for 7-0.

As the first quarter continued ‘Town’ could not add to their lead as first scrum half CJ Boyce and then right wing AJ King went desperately close to scoring.

On the half hour the visitors levelled with a well worked try, and soon after capitalised on a home handling error to bag a second converted effort to snatch the lead.

Returning to the attack the home side punted a penalty to touch in front of a packed West Bank, and from the lineout Ben Priddey touched down, for fly half Moyle to add the extras with a well judged kick.

Before the break Camborne went back in front in style when hooker Priddey fed Moyle and looped around to receive the return pass to head over in the scoreboard corner.

Leading 19-14 at half time the Cherry & Whites stretched the lead with a routine penalty from Moyle early in the second period.

On 54 minutes the home try bonus point was secured when wing Alex Ducker stooped to collect a Harry Larkins pass, before darting over in the turnstile corner. Moyle converted with an excellent kick.

Now 29-14 up, Camborne introduced debutant young wing Jowan Wilding and his first act was a superb try-saving tackle, to snuff out a long range Hinckley attack.

Going into the closing stages ‘Town’ went out of sight as Priddey showed his strength to force his way over off the back of a maul to complete yet another hat trick of touchdowns.

Down but not out the visitors hit back with their third try of the afternoon before Camborne added further gloss late on, as Tommy Southworth steered over from a catch and drive. Moyle’s majestic touchline conversion brought the game to a fitting conclusion.
