Bournville 12 - Camborne 40

Camborne gave a fine all round team performance scoring six tries to inflict a first home defeat of the season on Bournville and remain top of the National Two West table, writes Martin Symons.

For the trip to Birmingham the Cherry & Whites included Harlequins and England U20s prospect Josh Bellamy at fly half and the youngster responded with an excellent display.

Against a powerful home side ‘Town’ made a strong start running in two early scores to go 12-0 up.

First fly half Bellamy’s long pass sent left wing Alex Ducker racing to the goal line before flanker Jordan Nicholls stormed clear from more than 30 metres to dot down. Kyle Moyle added the extras to the Nicholls score.

Still inside the half hour with play going from end to end Camborne bagged two more tries to pick up the bonus point and put some daylight between the two teams.

On 19 minutes centre Josh Matavesi carried hard before offloading to right wing Harry Larkins who sliced through the cover to score under the posts. Full back Moyle converted and soon after he was on target again when flanker Aden Brassington showed his strength and determination to go over from close range.

Trailing 0-26 Bournville hit back with an unconverted score as the interval neared and when they determinedly added a second touchdown, this time converted soon after the resumption, it was game on.

The Cherry & Whites then dug deep in defence making a number of telling tackles as the home side went up a gear in an effort to get back in touching distance.

Crucially when ‘Town’ got an attacking opportunity on 53 minutes hooker Ben Priddey went over from a catch and drive with Moyle’s conversion making the score 33-12.

As both sides emptied their benches the game continued with breathless attacks coming to nothing at both ends.

Late on Camborne added further gloss to their win when a series of forward drives ended with try machine Priddey powering over leaving a routine shot for Moyle to add his fifth successful conversion.
