Yeovil Ladies 43 Penryn Ladies 31
Penryn Ladies travelled to Somerset to take on their Yeovil counterparts on Remembrance Sunday in what turned out to be an entertaining encounter on a dry and mild day in front of a vocal large crowd writes Jonathon Plummer.
Before the match, a two-minute silence was impeccably observed. Yeovil opened the scoring after five minutes, scored by flanker Bernadette Chubb, but Penryn soon responded when flying Full back Lauren Angove went the length of the field to touchdown. Georgia Hall added the conversion, and the Borough led 7-5.
Yeovil soon responded when number eight Joanna Norton went over in this end-to-end encounter. Once again Penryn responded when winger Bo Prout crossed for the score.
Yeovil scored two tries quickly when backs Emily Kendall and Natasha Eales crossed over both tries converted by Tia Shrimpton.
Penryn got back into the match just before the half-time whistle when centre Georgia Hall crashed over, Hall converted her own try to leave the half-time score Yeovil 24 Penryn 19.
Yeovil started the second half on the front foot with their big pack being difficult to bring down and scored tries by Laura Jenkins, Brittany Phelps and Lauren Mcllenand, Tia Shrimpton adding two more conversions.
The Penryn ladies battled back superbly in the last twenty minutes as the Large Yeovil side visibly tired.
The Borough scored two more tries, the first by Skipper Paige Clarke to bring up the deserved bonus point and Rebecca O’Reilly, and Georgia Hall added one more conversion.
Penryn were now well on top but ran out of time to complete a comeback. This was a determined display by Penryn against a much larger Yeovil side.
Penryn’s players of the match were fly half Sophie Roberts, second-row Teigan Aitken and flanker Paige Clarke.
Penryn Ladies' next match is at home to Newton Abbot on Sunday, November 24.
