DESPITE the weather doing its utmost to wreck another Saturday in the Kernow Stone St Piran Football League, fortunately the programme remained almost intact with cup and league action taking place, writes Leon Prynn.

Premier division (West) leaders Illogan RBL negotiated a tough examination by Hayle to reach the third round of the Tracy Banfield Cup with a 2-0 win, but after a good start St Agnes’ hopes were dashed by St Mawgan who raced to a 7-0 win.

In the league Helston Athletic Development’s hopes of moving into second place ended at Borlase Park where Pendeen Rovers pulled off a 3-1 victory with two goals from Alex Ralph and one from Matt Roberts. Ollie Redd had Helston’s goal.

Perranwell moved into the top four after winning 4-2 against Praze-an-Beeble. Their goals came from Lachlan Brace (2), Matt Sanders and Matt Lane.

Wendron United Reserves went down 2-1 at home to St Just. Josh Padgeth had United’s goal and Saints scored first half goals through Ashley Ellis and Josh Atwood.

Porthleven sit just outside the top four after their 2-0 win against Redruth United with the goals coming from Luke Hunter and Dexter Bainbridge.

In division one (West) West Cornwall, on the end of a heavy defeat last week, hit back with a 5-1 beating of RNAS Culdrose with Owain Barrett (2), Ben Kellow, Lee Chambers and Ben Dawe scoring the goals.

Ludgvan cut Mawnan’s lead at the top of the table after a clear-cut 4-0 win against Wendron United III and goals from Stephen Jory and Dan Parker ensured Porthleven Reserves’ 2-0 win at St Day Reserves maintained their third-place spot.

Camborne SoM were 2-0 winners against Penzance Reserves and St Ives Town edged out Troon 1-0 with a goal from Ross Duncan.

In a third round Evely Cup tie Illogan RBL Reserves ended Mawnan’s hopes in dramatic style with a 5-4 win on penalties after the sides were locked at 2-2 after extra time. Martin Jay had both Illogan’s goals and Mawnan’s came from Adam Keenan and Dominic Pullen.

With Dropship having no game in division two (West) they were knocked off the top of the table by Holmans SC who trounced Constantine 12-0 with eight different goalscorers. The goals came from Sam King (3), Callum Faulkner (2), Leo Julyan (2), Sam Nettle, Anton Peters, Marcus Peters, Liam Phillips and Jake White.

Newlyn Non-Athletico moved into second place with a high-scoring 9-4 win against Lizard Argyle with Matt Woodsford, Tristan Hawkings, Matt Bray and Matt Cowie scoring for Argyle.

Falmouth United went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Frogpool/Cusgarne. Max Owers and Joseph Bersey scored for ’Pool and Mason Taylor had United’s goal.

Probus defeated St Agnes Reserves 5-1 and St Buryan’s resurgence continued with a 6-3 win at Perranwell Reserves. Adam Selley (2) and Alfie Eddy had Perran’s goals and Saints netted through Jake Maddern (2), Gair Jenkin (2), Ross McNair and an own goal.

Perranporth cut Falmouth DC’s lead at the top of division three following a narrow 2-1 win at St Just Reserves. Darren Steadman had The Tinners’ goal.

Mullion Reserves enjoyed a good 4-1 victory at home to Pendeen Rovers Reserves after scoring through Perran Hobson (2), Archie Rutterford and Josh Whaley.

St Ives Mariners were 6-3 winners against Carharrack after scoring through Kieran Abraham (2), Stephen Davey, Jason Blight, Stuart Lugg and Greg Stephens and Penryn Athletic won narrowly 2-1 at St Day III with goals from Sean Fry and Toby Judd.

Mawgan are becoming the team to watch in division four after yet another good result saw them beat title contenders Dropship Reserves 4-0.

Goonhavern Athletic Reserves romped to a 8-2 win against Newlyn Non-Athletico Reserves after notching goals through David Mitchell (4), Dan Scholes (2), Lloyd Piper and Louis Brown.

Leaders Holman SC Reserves defeated title rivals Troon Reserves 2-1 with goals from Ross Williams and Ian Chatfield.

A hat-trick from Jordan Lawry and goals from Rob Tan and Harley Martin helped Falmouth Athletic to their first league win of the season with a 5-2 success at Lizard Argyle Reserves.

Chacewater caused an upset with a 5-0 win at Perranporth Reserves and goals from Calum Turner (2), Ryan Steed, Will Paterson, Oliver Ionascu, Lewis Hawkins, James Holmes and Travis Martin paved the way for Probus Reserves’ 8-1 win against Storm. Conner Trevena scored Storm’s goal.
