All roads will lead to Budock Vean Golf Club on Sunday as the club stages its annual "Open" charity four-ball better-ball day in aid of multiple sclerosis as the main beneficiary with a percentage going to local playing fields.
Players from all over the county will be playing for some of the best prizes in Cornish golf including a week's stay in a six-berth villa in the mountains of Northern Portugal generously donated by Godolphin Villas.
Club captain Keith Rashleigh said: "I am pleased to say I've received some terrific support for the charities and it promises to be a good day. Once again the Barlow family have given up the golf course for the day and that is much appreciated. We have just two tee-times left at the moment 9.30 and 9.50 am."
Additional sponsors have also come forward this week and includes Theobald Tarmacadam; Ocean BMW; Vospers Ford; Cape Cornwall Golf Club; Gweek Seal Sanctuary; Trebah Gardens; Isles of Scilly Steamship Co; Richard Burton Windows; Stylo Shoes; Lyle and Scott; and Green Lamb (ladies' wear).
On Sunday David Penrose carded a superb net 63 to win the August monthly medal. Runner-up was Terry Philp with a fine net 66, just pipping David Stevens and Rob Gibson on the countback. Ian Scorse was the happiest man in the bar, however, having scooped the "roll-over" two's jackpot.
Marlene Williams won the LGU medal on Wednesday with an excellent net 60. Philippa Oliver and Alison Samuel were second and third respectively both carding fine net 64's.
The club was informed this week that Nick Bryant was one of the region's top 21 qualifiers for the Marie Curie International competition and he now plays in the final at Woodbury Park. David and Olga Davies will also represent Budock Vean in the Volvo Masters regional final, also at Woodbury Park in Devon.
Budock Vean members also enjoyed great success last week in the Daily Telegraph Junior/senior competitions. James Cloke and Chris Mason won at Tehidy Park on Thursday and the following day Matthew Ramsden and Terry Philp won at Mullion.
