Falmouth Golf Club's Junior team played their last league match of the season at home against Tehidy, writes Andy Hawkins. Falmouth won 4-2, but lost out on winning the league on a countback to Tehidy. It all went down to the last putt on the last green.

To win the league Falmouth had to win 5-1.

Katie Rule, aged 13 won the Golf Foundation u14s South West girls championship at Launceston by a staggering eight shots! She now goes on to represent SW England in the national final to be held at the Forest of Arden golf club in August.

Club president Tony Annear has been very busy over the past few weeks arranging his President's Putter competition day. The ladies and the men's competition was played over 18 holes medal format and the juniors 18 holes Stableford format. Proceeds from the day would be donated to Tony's chosen charity Huntington's Disease. Thankfully Tony's hard work was rewarded with ideal conditions and 90-plus members enjoyed a great day.

During the day there were the customary nearest the pin and longest drive competitions,. Andy McKnight won the longest drive competition for the men and Mary Bennetts for the ladies. Richard Thompson came very close to a "hole in one" to win the nearest the pin for the men, the ball finishing just 10 inches from the pin!

Val Trevithick took the honour for the ladies - her ball finished six feet six inches from the pin.

Nicky Hodges recorded the best score for the visitors with a fine nett 68 and single figure handicap golfer Colin Ross shot the best scratch round with a solid nett 72.

Young Katie Rule, who is one of Falmouth's rising stars, won the junior Stableford competition with a great 44 points.

The men's competition result was very close. Second and third places were decided on count-back of the back nine and Chris Dowling just beat Barry Lawrence to second place after they both recorded a nett 67. Dan Briers was the winner of the men's competition with a fine nett 65.

Sue Rule finished in third place for the ladies with a nett 74, Maureen Willey was second with a nett 68 and Elaine Goodwin won the ladies competition with a fine nett 66.

The overall winner of the competition with a brilliant nett 63 was the president's wife Pam Annear. Pam has been in great form over the last month and this is the third competition she has won.

The finale of the day was the putting competition for a gallon of whiskey. The competition was running all day and the final putt was to be at 21.30. Much enthusiasm surrounded this competition and a great deal of revenue was produced for the charity. Neil Dickenson sank the winning putt to clinch the coveted prize. In all £571 was raised for Tony's charity.
