PORTHLEVEN recorded their third win on the bounce on Saturday as they came from two goals down to beat St Dennis.
With two games left to play the result has given the Fishermen a real chance of finishing in the top half of the Carlsberg SW Peninsula League division one table, despite a disappointing league campaign.
The win was made all the more impressive by the fact that Port are also one of only two teams to have done the double over St Dennis this season, with Penryn being the other.
Not even league leaders Newquay have managed to take six points off the Saints this season.
The game did not start well for Porthleven though as the visitors started at a frantic pace. Carl Rickard put them in front when his brother Lee broke down the right and squared the ball to him eight yards out.
After 11 minutes it was 2-0 as a corner from Jay Isbell was headed in at the back post by Ryan Hayhurst.
To make matters worse Port then lost central defender Lee Cattran to injury, forcing striker Chris Lawrence to fill in at centre-half.
However, it was Lawrence who got Port back into the match three minutes before half time as he crossed for Chris Morris to volley a shot past St Dennis keeper Brett Allen. Port then dominated the second half and were deservedly level when Jordan Aldard's free-kick was punched out by Allen, only for Lawrence to turn in the rebound.
Substitute Dan Greet, Reg Pearson and Rob Carey all had chances to put Port into the lead, but it wasn't until the 80th minute that they got themselves in front. The winning goal came from an Adlard free-kick that was headed home at the far post by Pearson.
Porthleven were due to play Truro City Reserves away last night, Tuesday.
Port will finish their season away at Vospers Oak Villa on Saturday, May 5.
If they can collect six points from those two games they could lift themselves as high as seventh in the table.
