Porthleven finished the Carlsberg South West Pensinula League division one west season with a 1-1 draw away at Vospers Oak Villa.
Port went into the match knowing a victory would lift them to ninth in the table. However, following the result they will now have to settle for a 12th placed finish.
The draw was also no good for Vospers, who needed more than a point to overtake fourth placed Godolphin. Villa will now need to draw or beat Callington, in the only game left to play in the division, to claim fourth.
In fairness it was a game Port could have won and their impressive end to the season suggests that there is much too look forwards to for the Fishermen's 201-13 campaign.
They went into this match with a number of first teams players out. Dominic Batchelor, Jamie Burr, Darren Robertson, Chris Morris and Matt Fox were all unavailable. This meant Chris Lawrence had to stand-in at centre-half. Justin Searle and Jordan Adlard took up their usual midfield roles and put in an excellent performance.
However, it was Vospers who took the lead early on when a cross by Stuart Forte was punched away by Port goalkeeper Paul Williams. However, the ball fell kindly for Robbie Almond to head home.
Porthleven hit back as Reg Pearson crossed for Rob Carey to head goalwards. However, Vospers keeper Andy Barnes produced a good save. Port's pressure paid off moments later as Nick Souness was robbed of possession by Pearson. Pearson then ran through on goal only to be brought down by Barnes. Adlard stepped up and slammed the penalty home.
The second half began with Porthleven on top as Chris Strike played Pearson in on goal. But, in a one-on-one situation with Barnes, Pearson struck his effort wide of the goal.
Williams then saved well from Lee Mitchell, before Danny Greet's header was pushed wide for a corner by Barnes.
Vospers struck the crossbar with a free-kick from Mitchell, but it was Port who had the last chance of the match as Pearson was put through on goal again by Strike with two minutes to go.
This time Barnes rushed off his line and Pearson chipped the ball over the goalkeeper. However, his shot bounced agonisingly wide of the post.
