HELSTON Athletic manager Sid Taylor admitted he was delighted with his side’s start to the season as they opened with a record-breaking 13-0 win against Foxhole Stars.
The result equals the Carlsberg SW Peninsula League record, set by Stoke Gabriel when they beat Ottery St Mary by the same scoreline.
However, the victory is the biggest away result for a club in the Peninsula League and breaks the record for the CSWPL division one west.
“The players deserve a lot of credit,” said Taylor. “Foxhole weren’t that strong, we knew that going there. We knew they had problems, but what pleased me with the players is how hard they worked to get the ball back and to keep possession.
“They didn’t get greedy either,” added Taylor. “Sometimes when you go in five or six-nil up, there is a tendency to come out second half and let it fall away a bit.
“But the lads continued to play their football and kept the ball moving. I was absolutely delighted with that. You can only beat what is in front of you and to set a new record was fantastic for the club.”
