Caretaker manager Daryl Hunter has backed his Porthleven team to improve despite two disappointing results over the August Bank Holiday.
It has been a turbulent week at Gala Parc, with manager John Dent resigning from the club on Friday evening, just a game into the start of the new season.
Dent took charge of Porthleven last September and led the club to the semi-finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup.
Since Dent’s departure, Porthleven have played two games in quick succession.
They travelled to Newquay to face Godolphin Atlantic on Saturday, where they were beaten 5-0.
Following that they travelled to Penryn, where in rain soaked conditions they found themselves 4-0 down at half-time.
However Porthleven, who have a young squad this season following a number of players leaving in the summer, battled back in the second half and reduced the deficit to 4-1.
Speaking about the fightback, Hunter said that it gave him a lot of confidence that Porthleven were moving in the right direction.
He added that any incoming manager would inherit an improving side.
“Our team-talk at half-time was to tell the players to go out and win the second half,” said Hunter. “The game, if I’m perfectly honest, was over at half-time. It was all about going out in the second half and putting in a performance and we did that.
“There is a lot of positives to be taken from the game. We have a young squad and we are a little bit sparse at the moment, but the players we have got are only going to improve and get better.
“We could do with a few older heads, just to give the younger guys a little more support, but they are certainly are lot of positives and I can only see us going forward.”
Hunter is expected to be in charge for the weekend’s trip to Foxhole Stars.
They have also struggled at the start of the season and currently find themselves bottom of the table, having lost all three of their opening games.
Hunter admits, despite Port’s two recent defeats they will travel to that game with a lot of confidence.
“They are going through a rebuilding faze, very much similar to ourselves,” he said. “We will go there in confident mood, because even though we have lost the last two games there are a lot more positives than negatives to be taken from those games.”
