Opportunist thieves helping themselves to other people’s cash left behind in supermarket self service tills have been causing problems lately.
DC Rick Milburn, from Falmouth Police, said: “What we have been having a lot of recently are thefts from the ‘cash back tills’ at Asda.
“What I would say is - if do you get cash back, please remember to take it because we have had at least half a dozen of these lately.”
Taking money that has been left behind by others could be classed as theft by finding, DC Milburn said.
“If you do find this money and decide to keep it, it is theft and you are on CCTV,” he said.
“People doing it probably think it is not a crime, but it could be.”
