Falmouth School has revealed ambitious plans to create a floodlit, all-weather sports pitch on the site of the former Budock Hospital which will be made available for use by the whole community.
To fund the acquisition of the site, the school will sell off a sports pitch opposite the former hospital site which has become virtually redundant because of the dangers posed to children crossing the ever-increasingly busy road.

Accompanying the new full-size pitch would be a changing pavilion and car parking with the rest of the site earmarked for a soft play area and habitat zone.
Head teacher, Sandra Critchley, said: “We have been in discussion for some time with the NHS. They are now in the position where they can dispose of the site.

"It has just been sitting there derelict and getting overgrown and this is the most logical use for the site and delivers the most benefits to the town.”
Deputy head, Brett Miners, added: “This is a unique development opportunity for the school and for the town.
"The school and governors have been working for quite a period of time in developing these plans to ensure that they are deliverable.”
