Coastguards were called into action to cordon off parts of Falmouth on Friday afternoon after torrential rain caused drains to burst and some roads to flood.
Worst affected was Melvill Road, where heavy rain dislodged a manhole cover and part of the road disappeared under six inches of muddy water.
Traffic was diverted onto Cliff Road, which itself was flooded in some areas.
A Met Office amber warning is already in place across the South West and much of the north of England, with more heavy rain expected throughout Friday night and into Saturday.
